Gramvousa – Balos

Paradise on Earth! Combo beach tour visiting 2 of the most beautiful beaches in Crete, Balos beach and the unspoiled beach of Gramvousa island!

Our adventure starts very early in the morning travelling by bus to the West side of the island! Along the way after about 90 minutes we will make our first stop in the village of Skaleta (for about 20 minutes), where you will have time to have breakfast, drink some coffee or just relax and stretch a bit. Moving on, we drive along the coast line past the cities of Rethymno and Chania and after another 90 minutes drive we arrive at the port of Kissamos. From there we embark the ferry with first destination the island of Gramvousa.

During our boat trip, we have the chance to admire a vast cave that used to be an ancient shipyard, with the possibility of spotting sea turtles or dolphins. We also have a chance to see the impressive geological phenomenon of the simultaneous lifting and sinking of the two sides of the island, where its western side rises up to 6-9 meters above the sea level.

After an hour boat trip we arrive at the island of Gramvousa also known as the “Pirates’ Island”. Here you have time (about 90 minutes) to visit the Venetian castle that prevails on the highest spot of the island that offers a stunning view and you can get amazing pictures from its walls! Alternatively, you can just relax and enjoy swimming in the amazing beach with crystal clear water or do some snorkeling around the shipwreck you can find very close to the beach.

Leaving the island only 15 minutes away unfolds the Blue lagoon of Balos! Feel free to get captivated from its intense, unreal beauty since the view of the lagoon is truly breathtaking! Here you will have around 2hours and 30 minutes to relax on this splendid beach and get amazing pictures in the shallow and warm turquoise water. The more adventurous can do some snorkeling in western with deeper water beach of the island or ascend to the mountain to get themselves some carte-postal like pictures of the lagoon!

These few hours of solitude in this modern paradise that resemble the Caribbean or Maldives will be engraved in your memory forever!

Boarding on the bus full of memories and hopefully with a nice sun tan instead of a sunburn for the 3 hour drive back.
